The Menu

The Menu: Made Fresh, Gone by Close

Coffee, pastries, stone-ground bread, and seasonal lunch — everything baked or brewed in-house that morning.

How the Menu Works

No freezer, no reheating, no leftovers carried over to the next day.

What you see on the counter at Mintcpixel is exactly what was baked or assembled that morning. The menu is split into three windows: the morning counter (07:00–11:00), which is heavy on pastries, bread and espresso drinks; the mid-morning window (11:00–13:00), where the lunch plates start appearing alongside the last pastries; and the afternoon wind-down (13:00–close), when filter coffee, cake slices and whole loaves for takeaway dominate. Quantities are deliberately limited — we'd rather run out at 14:00 than let quality slip to fill a display case. Check our social channels the night before if you're coming for something specific.

Coffee Bar

Espresso-based drinks and filter options, all made with our house Yirgacheffe single-origin roast.

  • Flat White — R38

Double ristretto pulled at 1:1.5 ratio, topped with velvety full-cream milk. The workhorse of the bar and the drink most people re-order without thinking twice.

  • Pour-Over Filter — R45

Hario V60, 15 g dose, four-minute brew. Served black in a ceramic cup. Ask the barista which grind setting is dialled in that morning — it changes with humidity.

  • Iced Cortado — R42

Double shot over a single large ice cube, with a 30 ml dash of oat milk. Best ordered between 10:00 and 13:00 when the Cape Town sun really gets going.

Pastries & Bread Counter

Laminated, enriched, and sourdough — all out of the oven by 07:30.

  • Butter Croissant — R32

27 layers of Pepe Saya butter and heritage wheat dough, cold-proofed overnight for 18 hours. Pull it apart and watch the honeycomb unfurl — that's how you know the lamination held.

  • Miso-Butter Morning Bun — R38

Our take on the cinnamon bun: enriched dough rolled with white miso, brown butter and demerara sugar, topped with a smear of yuzu-kissed cream cheese. The flavour is complex, deeply savoury-sweet.

  • Country Sourdough Loaf — R85

80% stone-ground white, 20% whole-wheat, naturally leavened for 36 hours. Scored and baked in a cast-iron combo cooker. Available whole or half; sells out most days before noon.

Seasonal Lunch Plates

Small plates built around whatever came off the market truck that morning.

  • Roasted Butternut & Labneh

Cape Malay-spiced butternut on a swipe of labneh, scattered with toasted pumpkin seeds and finished with pomegranate molasses. Served with a slice of sourdough toast.

  • Farro, Kale & Preserved Lemon

Pearled farro dressed with house-preserved lemon oil, blanched Morgenster kale, shaved pecorino and a soft-boiled egg. A proper lunch that keeps you full through the afternoon.

  • Smoked Snoek Toast

Flaked smoked snoek mixed with cream cheese, capers and dill on toasted sourdough. A Cape Town combination that absolutely makes sense once you try it.
